Cold Springs Winery co-owners, Bill and Bing Ringert, continue to strive for a tradition of rising to the occasion.
Bill served as a B-25 pilot during his 3 years in the U.S. Air Force and Bing worked as a flight attendant for American Airlines. Bill attended the University of Idaho obtaining a degree in agriculture and later earned law degree from Southern Methodist University. Bing attended university at Arlington State and University of Texas. They were married in 1959 and, after Bill completed law school, they packed up and returned to Idaho to settle in Boise.
Bill always included wine in their lives. When Bing and Bill moved from Boise to Hammett, they planted a test plot which appeared to thrive in the soil of the high desert near Hammett, ID. So in 1999, another 4 acres went under vines, and in 2001, another 8 established roots. In 2002, the buildings, which house the tasting room and winery, were constructed.
In 2002, Bill contacted winemaker, Jamie Martin, who had spent many years as the owner and winemaker of Rose Creek Winery in Hagerman, Idaho. A working relationship was formed.
Today, with the keen attention and care of vineyard manager, Julia Heath, the vineyards cover 33 acres and consist of nine grape varietals: riesling, chardonnay, pinot gris, viognier, cabernet sauvignon, merlot, pinot noir, syrah, and tempranillo. The wines produced are primarily estate bottled.
